ARTIST BIO
Marijcke Keli’i wahine noho ikea nuenue Christianson was born and raised in Hawai'i and grew up on the windward side of the island of O'ahu.  She is a fine artist whose special forte is figure drawing, along with horses and imagery from dancing hula. She started drawing as a child as soon as she was able to pick up a pencil and has been drawing ever since. After high school she went to study art at the Museum Art School in Portland Oregon and then at the Art Center in L.A. California. Returning to Hawaii in 1978, she graduated from the University of Hawaii with a B.F.A in drawing and printmaking, continuing into graduate studies there as well. Her work has been presented in a wide variety of shows over the last 25 years, and she has been featured in three solo exhibitions. In 2003, she took her work to the East Coast, and over the two years spent there, she showed in a number of exhibitions in Pennsylvania. To date, she is still represented by the Lynden Gallery in Elizabethtown, PA. She was a visiting artist at Elizabethtown College and conducted a figure drawing and painting class with the art professor there. Her forte is drawing the nude figure which she has been doing for almost 20 years.

She now lives on the windward side of Oahu where her heart is.

"Drawing is my first love, and I love drawing the human form."

"The Elements and the Human Condition…. that is what my Art is about."

ARTIST STATEMENT

I love to draw.  For me the drawing is a final and complete work of art, not just a sketch for a painting or sculpture.  I am inspired by the beauty and spirit of the human form, horses and my Hawaiian island home.
